Braid Coming to PS3

BraidWhile many of you 360 owners have already had your way with the most excellent Braid, now PS3 owners will have the same privilege with the game finally getting rated for release.  You can read more about it over at destructoid, but suffice it to say that this is one that shouldn’t be missed by anyone who’s a fan of platformer or puzzle games.  It’s got a breathtaking soundtrack, outstanding visuals, and a truly original story that I thoroughly enjoyed.  Are any of you PS3 owners excited?

GeeksPodcast Episode 9: Panic Over Comic-Con 3.2

Snowball USB MicrophoneNicole and I recorded our latest show yesterday and apologize for missing a week- it’s entirely her fault though as she propelled us into this cutthroat competition of sorts so please direct all of your hateful comments to her.  It’ll be hard to come to terms with, but I think she’ll appreciate it in the end.

Anyways!  Here’s a link to our latest show where we talk about the future of Panic!, the San Diego Comic Con, the forthcoming WoW patch notes, and our geek of the week.

5 Quick Observations on WoW

murloc

Today I was debating with my friend Jeff about why World of Warcraft is a masterpiece not just as a game, but as an experience.  In typical Jeff fashion he took the role of devil’s advocate and in typical me fashion I fell into it vehemently defending my addic-er, passion.  After some consideration, rather than launch into another post about the competition between Nicole and I (which I’m killing by the way), I thought I’d just  list 5 of the reasons I enjoy the game in general and what brought me to it in the beginning.

Panic! at the Disco’s Newest Single

Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith. Today Panic! at the Disco (yes, I used the exclamation point because apparently it is back in their name) released their newest single, “New Perspective.” Although it’s on the soundtrack for a dumb movie (see Jennifer’s Body), I’m totally digging this song. If you liked Pretty.Odd. you’re in for a 360, but then again if you liked A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out you’re in for a new ride, too. To me it sounds very Third Eye Blind, which I am 100% okay with! You can read the lyrics and hear the song here.

You can also hear a clip of another one of their upcoming songs, “Oh Glory”, here. This one is even farther away from either of the two albums they previously released, maybe even a little Fall Out Boy-ish. This new album is going to be quite the surprise, I’m sure.

UPDATE: Jon Walker and Ryan Ross have revealed their new band name, The Young Veins, and as well as their newest single today. It is definitely apparent that the bands wanted to take two totally different directions. You can listen to TYV’s newest single here.

Why Joshua Might (but Probably Won’t) Win

Josh is a pretty sneaky dude, you never know what he's up to...Day 11: I must admit, Joshua has unpleasantly surprised me with his progress in trying to beat me in our WoW competition. I’m finding it rather hard to keep ahead of him, as he is giving me competition I did not expect. And while I’m at it, I will also admit, he hit 60 about twenty minutes before I did, winning the unofficial bronze trophy in our race. I am now ahead of him again, but for a short period of time he managed to sneak past me in level… and I’m the rogue! So now I am finding I need to rely on my pure gamer instincts to get me ahead in this race. In my moments of weakness, however, I started to lose sight and think about all of the reasons Josh may actually win the race to 80. Here are five of them.

Weekend WoW Update

WoWSo I’m laying here trying to watch LOTR with Nicole and she’s wrapping up her auctions on my laptop.  We’re just about neck-and-neck currently with her just barely into 62 while I’m nearly out of 61 territory.  I’m sure she’ll give you the run-down later, but I did end up beating her to level 60 and promptly went out to grab my epic mount.  Right now we’re fighting for domination in Outland, glaring at each other as we cross paths to and from the next quest.  She’s a tough customer to be sure, but it’s been a lot of fun maintaining this coopetition of sorts.

Besides playing WoW, we’re also putting together notes for the show we’re recording tomorrow and hope you’ll check it out. We’ll probably have a new geek of the week ready and talk about our first video post we did the other day as well as whatever else I can find that’s interesting online.  Well, that’s all for now.  Goodnight internets!

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland Trailer

I’d found this the other day, but I had a lot of people asking me where to find it so I figured I’d go ahead and post it.  It looks to be as visually lush as the rest of Burton’s films, but I have to say that Depp as the Mad Hatter looks positively devious.  I’m not sure I’ll go see this opening day, but after seeing the below trailer it definitely looks promising.

Palm Pre Update Pwns iTunes Lockout

Palm Pre UpdateSo last week we’d reported on how the latest version of iTunes put the smack-down on the Palm Pre’s ability to properly sync.  I jokingly asked how long it would take for Palm to provide an update re-enabling the feature.  Well, that certainly didn’t take long as the latest Palm Pre update provides exactly that- complete circumvention of the last iTunes update.  Head over to Gizmodo for more.

Sam Raimi to Direct the World of Warcraft Movie

ROFLMAOOh boy, if ever there were a day where my nerdgasmic excitement couldn’t be contained ladies and gentlemen, today would be that day.  Why?  Because today Blizzard announced that Sam Raimi would be directing the World of Warcraft movie.  I love Sam Raimi as a director and I don’t doubt his abilities one bit, but I’m praying that somewhere in there my beloved Bruce Campbell will make an appearance.  What do you think?  Can the Spider-Man director tackle Azeroth?
