World of Warcraft is a sprawling, wondrous place filled with rich storytelling, varied quests, and incredible rewards for those bold enough to pursue it. However, if you’re not taking advantage of the flexible addon system that Blizzard implemented in the game, you may find that you’re missing out on some incredible time savers to help you out on your way to riches or at least level 80. Below I’ll go over 5 addons that have made mine and will certainly make your life a lot easier as you continue leveling your character and indulging in everything World of Warcraft has to offer.
1. Auctioneer

There are plenty of ways to make money in World of Warcraft. You can sell your trash items to vendors, offer your services as an enchanter for money, or just flat-out beg for gold pieces as you frivolously try to save up the cash for amount. However, none have I found to be as profitable as the Auctioneer addon. Most of us have used the auction house at one point or another to sell some uncommon or even rare and epic items that we just didn’t need. However, auctioneer takes this process one step further and effectively turns the auction house into a small-scale stock market simulator. Auctioneer allows you to scan the auction house for all items up for sale and over time, build up a database of the general market value for the various items posted. Using this, you can find items people have accidentally posted for a very low price that may have a very high resale value. This allows you to quickly scan and purchase dozens of items at below value and re-sell them for often incredible profits. It’s true money can’t buy happiness, but it can sure as hell get you that Orb of Deception you’ve been salivating over.
2. QuestHelper
QuestHelper is sort of like GPS for Azeroth. Maintaining its own database of quests, items, points of interest, and non-player characters, QuestHelper minimizes the time you spend aimlessly wandering around looking for your next destination by adding a tiny arrow to the top of your interface pointing you to the next logical location based on your quest log. It also has a neat map overlay effect that will show you an animated, dotted line showing you where you ought to be travelling to keep your adventure going without getting lost or confused.
3. Coords
If you’re not interested in QuestHelper and prefer something a little more lightweight just in case you need to refer to
your current location, Coords might be a good option. It’s about as streamlined as it gets, displaying your current location using x and y coordinates wherever you are on the map. This can be helpful if you need to look up on Thottbot where you’re supposed to be headed for a particular quest. This can also be particularly useful in quests where you have to track down a roaming npc. For example, sites like Thottbot will often give you a map overlay explaining the general area where a mob might be and commentors are usually helpful enough to leave the coordinates of where they’ve previously encountered what it is you’re looking for.
4. Atlasloot Enhanced
If you’re partial to doing a lot of instances or raids with your character, Atlasloot Enhanced is a great addon that lets you keep track of the potential loot that might drop. It’s got a nice UI that lets you peruse drops in that particular instance along with their drop rate. So the next time you find yourself in Scarlet Monestary, yearning for that Whitemane’s Chapeau you so desperately need you can try to figure out what your chances are of having it drop.
5. MailGet
Considering that this November WoW will be creeping up on its 5 year anniversary, it’s baffling to me that after numerous patches and two expansions that Blizzard has yet to improve on the in-game mail interface. As you know, gold and items can be mailed to and from your various characters and friends in World of Warcraft. However, as anyone who’s auctioned 50 stacks of linen cloth knows, when your items don’t sell it’s a pain to keep clicking over and over to get every individual item in your mailbox. Enter MailGet, a fantastic addon that makes the act of retrieving all of your mail as simple as it should be allowing you to retrieve everything in your mailbox with a single click.
So there you have it, 5 addons that I’m a big fan of and you should be using solely on that merit. What other addons have you discovered?
