On Fridays I get out of Latin at 9:18 and head for Hughes Hall so I can wait in the classroom for classical music to start at 10:30. Usually I’ll play the piano, surf the internet a little, and listen to my iPod until class starts at 10:30. Today I just hung out on my laptop a little bit and instead some other kid from my class started playing the piano. HeĀ started playing really loudly so I turned up my iPod, but then I found myself listening to what he was playing more than my music: songs from different Nintendo games.
Most geeks that can play piano (eg, me, this other guy from my class) want to learn one song on the keys before learning anything else: Mario. He was our best friend growing up, and the least we can do as a tribute is learn his tunes. And if it isn’t Mario, it’s all the bazillion of beautiful songs from any of the Zelda games (my favorite is Windwaker). Anyway, the point of this post is to inform those who might not already know about the sensation that is Video Games Live. Music and video games go hand in hand with one another, and the orchestras/choirs that perform in these shows are phenomenal. It’s all of your favorite video game theme songs brought to live by a live symphony, so it’s World of Warcraft meets classical music. Think about how insanely great that is. You can pick up their album at most major retail stores or wait for them to tour in America again since they do it roughly every year.
More persuasion: here’s a list of some of the video games they’ve performed songs from…
Bioshock
Castlevania
Chrono Trigger
Diablo III
Final Fantasy
God of War
Halo
Kingdom Hearts
The Legend of Zelda
Mario
Mega Man
Metal Gear Solid
Silent Hill (I didn’t know this until just now!)
Sonic the Hedgehog
Tomb Raider
Warcraft
