I love to write. Even when I’m not blogging it’s rare that I don’t write something every day be it short stories or quick blurbs or ideas for future posts. However, as much as I love blogging, I also have the attention span of a goldfish and can be distracted by everything from browsing the web to movies or emails. As I began writing more and more for this site, I started making a conscious effort to eliminate some of those distractions and in my oh-so-beloved list format I shall now share at least some of what I use to keep the writing going without succumbing to reading Wikipedia for six hours.

Pause for Deliciousness
Nicole and I are taking a short break from the site leading up to Thanksgiving and the weekend. However, the eagle eyed among you may have noticed we’ve periodically been taking some short breaks and back dating some of our posts. It’s not that we don’t love posting as we certainly do! However, we both have responsibilities to work, family, and each other and have to make sure we’re managing our time effectively. Keeping with the spirit of Thanksgiving, we’d like to say thank you to all of you out there for sticking with us during our first year, despite the noticeable absence of podcasts lately. All of you, from fellow bloggers to friends and family, thanks for hanging out with us through our goofy antics. Nicole and I hope you all have a very happy Thanksgiving and we’ll be back next week!
Review: New Moon
As Nicole pointed out a few days ago, we went to the midnight launch of New Moon the other day. Having not read the books, I wasn’t overly thrilled at the prospect of going, but Nicole loves the series and since I love Nicole I did the nice boyfriend thing and went with her to the midnight launch. Without being a cynical jerk and making off-handed comments about a throng of screaming 12 year olds, can I offer an unbiased review of the film? Read on to find out.
Balloons for iPhone is Awesome
If you’ve never tossed a bottle with a note in it into the ocean or, more in line with this app, sent a balloon into the sky with a note attached to it, you have to check out the Balloons app. You can read more about it over at the official site, but the functionality is pretty straight forward. Choose a colorful balloon from the app’s main screen, snap a picture with your iPhone and add some text if you’d like. After you’re done, launch your balloon and track it to watch where it ends up. As people catch your balloon, they can add their own text and pictures which you can track from the ‘Baloon Tracker’ screen. I’ve launched a few myself and have had them caught all over the place, including one person from England! It’s only $2.99 on the app store and is definitely a fun little app to play around with.
10 Ergonomic Upgrades
Recently Nicole and I have been re-thinking our workspace in the office and how we can make it more approachable. It’s not that we don’t love what we do, but at the same time there are a few nagging things about our desks that passively deter us from actually working on the site in favor of, oh I dunno, spending 6 hours playing Borderlands. As we were in the midst of re-thinking how to arrange papers, mail, our computers, laptops, gadgets, and other things that litter our workspace, I came across a great article over at Lifehacker that details 10 Ergonomic Upgrades for Your WorkSpace. It’s got some pretty neat tips and I’d highly recommend checking out and pretty much Lifehacker in general!

Kevin Smith on New Moon
I’ve always been a huge fan of Kevin Smith, but almost moreso of his public speaking than his actual films after seeing An Evening with Kevin Smith. Having also seen New Moon I can say that Kevin’s theater experience was precisely like mine, having most of the mushy parts of the flick drowned out by the shrill piercing that is a carpet-laden room filled with the swooning cries of a few hundred tween girls. Anyways, the below video from the San Diego Comic Con pretty much hits the nail on the head.
3 Midnight Launches within 9 days?!
…yep. You’d think this one would be completely for me, but deep down I think Josh may even be more excited than I am. The second movie of the Twilight series, New Moon, debuts today and nine of us are going to be waiting in line eagerly around 10PM at Polaris’ Rave Theater. If I’m lucky I’ll convince Josh to let me bring the video cam and we’ll take some video of all the teenagers (and then us) anticipating some hot vampire action. Stay tuned, we’ll be doing reviews for this cinematic masterpiece within a couple of days!
The Definitive Joseph Ducreux Meme
So I didn’t even know that Joseph Ducreux was a meme, but from what I can see it’s a pretty awesome one. I just thought this was funny and figured you’d all appreciate the strong pimp hand of this particular French painter. Read the rest of them here!
Band of the Day: Midnight Riders
If you decided to pick up Left 4 Dead 2 this week you probably have played the “Dark Carnival” campaign already and are aware of the ending: in order to escape the zombie-infested Whispering Oaks amusement park, you must start the concert at the amphitheater. Annnnd, as you also may know, the stage is set up for the fictional band the “Midnight Riders” to play at. Throughout the campaign there are posters and memos on the safehouse walls about the biker band escaping Whispering Oaks, and now the Midnight Riders have their own teaser site up.
What could the “coming soon” mean? Well Michael McWhertor from Kotaku speculates that the Midnight Riders may be playable in a new DLC campaign, or that you may be able to choose to play one of the Midnight Riders in the Dark Carnival campaign. Either way, this would be super original and I look forward to slaying zombies as a middle-aged, tattooed biker dude (see: Francis).
Another Night, Another Midnight Launch
Well, 3 midnight launches more specifically. As you can see I’ve braved yet another midnight hour in my lust for geekish media. I confess though, that copy of Assassin’s Creed II is Jon’s, not mine, as he was nice enough to join me tonight. I will pick it up, but not until I’m done beating Modern Warfare 2. Come to to think of it, that’s like the third sequel to come along recently. I already know that MW2 is living up to its predecessor, but I haven’t spent enough time with these other two sequels to say either way. I’m sure I’ll review at least one of them in the coming week or two, but for now I’m going to kick back, relax, drink another, terrible Red Bull and play until I can’t keep my eyes are open, or the sun reminds me of my foolishness. Stay tuned!
