The God of War 3 Demo = Gamer Blue Balls

blue ballsWell, before I get into all that let me first say that Nicole and I hope you all had a merry Christmas or whatever your holiday preferences may be and we certainly hope you’re in for a fantastic new year! We’re back now from our short Christmas break and updates will be resuming post haste!

Now, back to the issue at hand, God of War 3.  Our buddy Jon picked up the last copy of District 9 on Blu Ray yesterday and to our surprise and excitement it came with a demo of God of War 3!  Mind you, it’s a 3GB install for your PS3, so be ready for that.  After waiting a while for the install to complete, Nicole, Jon, and I fired it up to get our first look at the action. After fighting our way through a throng of demonic baddies and other foulness the gods sent out way, we had a smashing good time disposing of Helios, complete with the introduction of a sadistically fun new game mechanic that I shan’t spoil here.  After hacking and slashing, allowing Kratos’ Blades of Chaos to lick up their fill of our enemies’ life force, we came away giddy with excitement as we took flight to take on what would surely be an amazing boss battle!  Except, we didn’t get to… Regardless, it was a gorgeous set up and as far as demos go this one hit all the right notes.  If the demo is any indication, God of War 3 will certainly live up to expectations and appears to be just as polished as the last.

How to Spot an Achievement Junkie

Achievement junkies or whores, if you prefer, have become more and more common as the need for virtual bragging rights has grown with the 360′s rampant popularity.  Sadly, being one myself I realized that many of you may not be quite so adept at spotting these unrelenting obsessives.  So, after thinking about it, I figured I’d better do the internet a good service and explain what behaviors and traits to look for when trying to sort out if one of your friends or relatives is a junkie.  Below are five questions to help you sort this mess out.

Christmas Time is Here (22-28)

OH SNAP, IT'S CHRISTMAS!!!1!As much as we love telling you all about the knowledge spilling out of our heads on your favorite games, movies and technologies, every so often there comes a time when we realize we gotta put first things first and put our virtual lives on hold. We spent a week with Joshua’s family and visited mine up in Ontario for Christmas, and really just got to take a load off for a week from (mostly) all school/work/website responsibilities. We hope everyone has a very blessed Christmas, or whatever it is that you believe in! Return to you soon! ;)

Do you have what it takes?

Mystery game…to buy a $98 Nintendo 64 game when you have no idea what it is? Apparently some dude on eBay is auctioning this item and the bidding price has already jumped from below $20 to $98 within a few days. The information he gives about it is vague: it’s rated E, that the “game is not shitty”, and that it is not “Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls”. Because of the increasing interest in this game, urb4nz0mb13 is giving the winner a second mystery N64 game, and has decided to give 25% of the sale to Child’s Play, a charity that donates games and toys to childrens’ hospitals around the world. True Christmas spirit. :)
If you are interested in this auction and think you’ve got the guts to put $100 toward this mystery game, go here.

DLC #2 for Borderlands

Mad Moxxi's Underdome

Gearbox announced their second DLC package for October’s RPG/FPS blockbuster, Borderlands. Titled “Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot”, this DLC is scheduled to come out on December 29 for 360 users and January 7 for those on the PS3. Unlike Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, this package is less plot focused and more centered in on raw action and for multi-player craziness.

“Mad Moxxi”, who could be Amanda Palmer from the Dresden Dolls’ video game doppleganger, changes husbands like she changes clothes, and apparently to find her new groom-to-be they must first attempt to survive her “underdome”. There are three domes: Hell-burbia, the Angelic Ruins and The Gully. In each of these, the player(s) will be faced with waves (specifically five) of different types of enemies (think the Fight Club quests from the original game). There is only one new quest: to survive each new dome. As easy as this may sound and even though you may have kicked serious butt when you did the Fight Club quests, this new DLC is supposed to challenge the player like they’ve never been challenged before. I suppose we’ll see for ourselves come December/January!

Maybe I just haven’t followed other games this closely, but I feel like Gearbox is really trying to pump out the DLC for this game. I absolutely love it, but I’m still finishing up Dr. Ned and my first char is only level 40 out of 50. Give those of us who have jobs and other obligations a chance to catch up first! But in the end, doesn’t matter. I’ll fall for it, end up buying it and play the life out of it until they release their next package. ;)

Need Another Monitor for Your Mac?

Moar!If so, you might wanna check out NewerTech’s USB 2.0 Display Adapter.  It’s Intel Mac compatible and will allow you to add multiple monitors to your Mac via USB and has selections available for DVI, HDMI, and VGA interfaces supporting up to 2048 x 1152 resolution.  Right now I’m doing dandy with just two, but for those of you that demand an embarrassing amount of screen real estate, this is totally worth checking out.

Valve Announces L4D2 DLC

Francis, Bill, Zoey, LouisWondering why the title is about L4D2 but our picture features the original four survivors? If you’ve connected the dots, you’re probably experiencing the same euphoria I am. New DLC for L4D2 is going to feature Zoey, Francis, Bill and Louis! Set shortly after the events of the “Dead Center” campaign, “The Passing” campaign will be released in the spring of 2010. Although you still play as the new characters, your group of survivors manage to run into the L4D set and the eight of you will fight through to the highway section of the “Dark Carnival” campaign. This DLC will also feature new survivor/scavenge/versus mode maps, a new type of Uncommon infected, new melee weapons and firearms, and even a new type of co-op play! An official date will be announced shortly.
