When I first read about and wrote the post for Mad Moxxie I was only slightly impressed. The $8.99 DLC I will inevitably buy features arenas? And there are only three of them to choose from? But when I considered it, I realized it was exactly what I wanted: more senseless killing. Borderlands attracted me for many reasons, but the satisfaction and joy the shooting aspect brought me was probably the best one. If you’ve watched, played or read about Mad Moxxie then, you already know why I am head over heels in love with her it. But let me share with you in list format…
- The three arenas take after three types of environments you experience in Borderlands. Your typical desert, middle-of-nowhere zone (“The Gully”), the mysterious and glamorous Eridian-Promontory zone (“Angelic Ruins”) and the New/Old haven, lots-of-buildings type zone (“Hellburbia”). Obviously, all of them are unique and offer different experiences which you must quickly adapt to, keeping the zones and gameplay fresh.
- MOAR WEAPONS! After each round completed, the middle of the map spawns new guns as a reward for completion.
- The music is completely entrancing. There’s nothing else on the planet I want to listen to than heavy-hitting house music while I’m taking down a group of baddies.
- Before I mention this point, let me clarify: in a standard match there are five rounds, and within each round there are five waves of enemies. So naturally you’d think the gameplay would get old quickly facing the same type of enemies round after round, right? Wrong. To break the monotony, each wave has some type of modifier or special rule. By this I mean before each wave of bad guys a roulette (very fitting) pops up on the screen and the game chooses which rule it wants you to follow. It can vary from having no shields throughout the round, to additional damage done with combat rifles, to anti-gravity waves. There’s always something up this game’s sleeve.
- The voice acting is spectacular. Sure the four protagonists, the enemies and the storyline characters were A+ material, but whoever spoke for Miss Moxxie knocked it out of the park. Her one-liners will most certainly put a smile on your face.
- She’s hot. End of story.
