Columbus Hotspots: The Guardtower

The Guardtower

If you’re big into role-playing games (of the non-video game variety) and you’re looking for a place to hang out and game with other like-minded players, you should definitely check out The Guardtower (Google maps link) in Columbus.  Nicole and I discovered it through Jon and have been going there ever since whenever we need a quick fix for Magic.  They’ve got a great selection of just everything you could ever imagine for role=playing/pen and paper games including Dungeons & Dragons, Warhammer 40K, Infinity, and a whole slew of others as you can see in the photos below.

Player Guides

They have a few player guides...

Even though their collection is large, varied, and impressive, it wouldn’t be much good if you’re a new player with absolutely no idea which game is right for you.  Thankfully, all of the guys I’ve run into at The Guardtower are incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and all around great people. The regulars are also quick to play demo games for you if you’re thinking of jumping into something new.  Speaking of which, aside from the sizable displays dominating the front of the store, almost equally large is the gaming area in the back with plenty of tables, bathrooms available, and a soda machine in case you need to recharge. It’s nice that they have such an expansive play area considering they regularly hold tournaments and regular games every day of the week for games like Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, and Warhammer.  Also, if you’re into painting miniatures they have a paint night where you can come and use their paint to work on your collection. Best of all?  They’re open until midnight every single day.

Squig

The Tower - I guards it.

While I’m certainly a fan of The Guardtower (or else, ya know, it wouldn’t be here on the site), I’m equally as much a fan of their mascot, Squiggy, pictured right up there.  Whether you’re a seasoned veteran of role-playing or a complete noobie looking to try something fun and new, you absolutely can’t go wrong with The Guardtower.  With over 20 years serving Columbus gamers, you can be sure to find whatever it is that you’re looking for.
