Character Review: Thal Sinestro

The following is another guest post from the most excellent Casey Dawson, one of my Packrat Peeps!

A villain to his homeworld of Korugar and the Universe itself, or is he a powerful hero that has gone astray? Many people would agree that Sinestro is a powerful enemy to the Green Lantern Corps on his own, but when he creates his own Sinestro Corps he is something much scarier. At least, Sinestro has the potential to create something much more sinister. Who are we to decide that Sinestro is really a villain?

Why My Heart Belongs To The Man Of Steel

The following is a guest post from Shawna of CatDeerDog Photography.  Be sure to check it out, especially if you’re in need of a photographer in the Columbus area!

I’m just gonna come on out and say it. My favorite superhero is Superman…always and forever since I was a little girl gleefully watching Christopher Reeves soar through the air to crying my eyes out along with Superman when Supergirl died in Crisis of Infinite Earths to when not so long ago I again cried while watching Superman Returns. Not because it was terrible movie (Hey, I enjoyed it!) or because he almost dies. Nope, this time I shed tears of nostalgia and joy at a very crucial moment of the film. It is the first moment in the film where you hear the theme song start up and see Clark Kent dash out onto the street and rip open his shirt to fly off and save the world. THAT is classic movie magic, people!

5 Comic Heroes I’d Kick in the Balls…for Science!

Before we get started, I realize that I appear to be in the habit of making dick jokes lately. However, this is different. This is a scientific examination of what exactly would happen if some of our favorite characters from comic books took a straight shot to the pills. Granted, some of you may have already seen some of these in Marvel vs. Capcom, but I’m trying to be professional here. For instance, what exactly would happen if I gave a brutal blow to the balls of…

Review: Teen Titans #1

The following is a guest post from a new friend I met at  Packrat Comics, Casey Dawson.
Teen Titans is a title that I had been waiting for since I heard about the DC relaunch. The collection of heroes that are much like the Justice League with more of the teenage drama that gives fair conflict to the team.

An Introduction to Comikaze 2011!

Photobucket

Going to Comikaze in Los Angeles was not a very difficult decision for me, despite that it’s over 2 hours away(I live in San Diego). For one, my friend whom I met at SDCC (San Diego Comic Con) last summer wanted to go there and I wanted to hang out with her again since we live so far from each other. So we agreed that Comikaze would be cool venue to attend.

So what is Comikaze? It’s a very diverse convention that caters to multiple genres so lot of different fans can come to Comikaze and have a good time. It was created when LA Comic Con got cancelled last August so it’s insane how they pulled this off in such a short period with a long list of awesome guests!  For example, Elvira made her last appearance at a major con in that legendary costume. When I was in the dealers hall and my jaw dropped to the floor because on account of the insanely long line. Also attending was Stan Lee! I have seen a lot of Stan Lee and he was, predictably, very well received.

Review: Pigs #1

Initially, I’d seen Pigs down at Packrat but something else stole my attention and I forgot about it.  However, the backstory to this is a bit convoluted.  On twitter a few weeks ago I sent out a tweet asking for recommendations on who I should be following and why.  Kevin Douglas of the most excellent Smart Income Blog responded that I should be following Nate Cosby, co-writer of Pigs. I now felt like a giant douche for not having picked up the comic, having no idea I’d be connecting with its creators shortly thereafter.  So how do I feel now that I’ve read Pigs?

Review: Ghostbusters #1

Oh man, I can’t tell you how pleased I was to find this last week.  While most of my comics come from Marvel, DC, and Image (in that order), I never picked up much from IDW.  However, I had absolutely no idea they would be publishing a new, ongoing Ghostbusters comic.  I’d had some vague familiarity with Ghostbusters comics before, but having by chance stumbled upon the first issue of the next big series filled me the kind of elation normally reserved for those doused in positively-charged mood slime.

So does issue 1 do the ‘busters justice or is it a disaster of Biblical proportions?  Read on…
