Dark Comics: Fell

It’s Wednesday so you know what that means- new comics!  However, each Wednesday this month we’ll be highlighting comics that are either horrific, disturbing, emotionally damaging, or all three!  Sleep tight, kids!

With that in mind, I thought today would be a good day to showcase one of my absolute favorites- Fell.

The Scariest Web Comic I’ve Ever Read

This is a quick post, but an important one.  I should point out this was originally posted on Reddit at one point but I was having trouble finding the original post there.  Just the same I had bookmarked it after I saw it a while back and while it’s short, it gets massive points for creativity.

It sounds strange, but I can say it more than left me uneasy.  So go ahead and click right here because, after all, a webcomic can’t be scary can it? ;)

Review: Nightwing #1

Look at the badassery

Hi, I’m Kyle Keckley. You may remember me from such GeeksPodcast productions as “30 Day Video Game Challenge: Day 6” and “We’re Headed to Ba-Con!“. I am not the new blogger that Josh spoke of in a recent post, but I suppose I am still a new blogger.

I will likely be covering tabletop gaming, video games, and cosplay more than anything; but since Josh has not yet acquired a copy of Nightwing, I thought I would cover it for the time being.

For those of you who do not know, (and therefore have not been reading Josh’s comic reviews, for shame…) DC has rebooted its story lines, calling the this new series the “New 52″. Now, I have always been what one might call a “fan” of Batman and everything to do with him. Except Robin… but what happens when we turn Robin loose to do his own thing? We get Nightwing…

Come Bowl and Watch The Walking Dead with 199 Zombies

I’m dead serious (see what I did there?).  In case you didn’t know, Packrat Comics is partnering with 10 Pin Alley in Hilliard on October 16th to have the biggest, baddest zombie bash ever- BUT we need your help to make it a success.

As it stands only about 40 people have bought tickets to attend.  That’s awesome,  but I think we can do better.  It’s not just about supporting Packrat and Ten Pin Alley- I’m also being selfish because the most zombies I’ve ever been around at once I could probably count on one hand-

Well, physically anyways.

With that in mind, Nicole and I would love to hit the magic number of 200 not only because we love Jamie and Theresa over at Packrat, but also because we’re positively giddy at the thought of 200 zombies shuffling around and bowling. (I’m sure in light of reduced mobility we can sweet talk Ten Pin Alley into turning off lane violations.)

Tickets are $25 unless you bring a friend then you can get multiple tickets for only $20! Think about how much you paid to bowl the last time you went with normal people and then think that you’ll also get:

  • Unlimited bowling
  • Pizza
  • Live music
  • Zombie Hunts
  • Costume and Trivia contest
  • The Walking Dead season 2 premiere showing on every screen plus a projector outside
  • The chance to meet and party with Special Effects God Tom Sullivan of Evil Dead

If zombies aren’t your thing it won’t break our hearts if you don’t attend.  What will break our hearts is if you don’t at least share this page with a friend or two who is nuts about zombies, bowling, or The Walking Dead.

Click here to purchase tickets online from Packrat OR you can buy them in person at Packrat Comics (Google maps link).

Also, anyone who can pick Nicole or I out of the crowd gets a free sticker!  (Sorry, it’s the best we could do after we ran out of gold-plated caviar dishes).

See ya there!

Review: Aquaman #1

Ok, if I was apprehensive about Batgirl #1, Aquaman wasn’t even on my radar.  I’m ashamed to say I confused him with Marvel’s Namor on a few occasions, but hey- at least I’m being honest.

I think the only familiarity I’d had with the character a was a brief joke from The 40 Year Old Virgin and his appearance on Smallville.  That’s it.  So you can imagine my surprise when I dropped into Packrat yesterday only to have Jamie swear to me that I needed to check it out.  Despite a raised eyebrow, he reassured me that it was worth my time.

Review: Batgirl #1

I approached Batgirl with some apprehension. Not because I have a thing against female superheros, but because I knew I’d already be picking up 4 different Batman series so I was iffy about adding one more. Of course, now that I have spent some time with Barbara Gordon, I’m most pleased to say that it was worth checking out.

Review: Green Lantern #1

When I said I was new to DC, Green Lantern probably constitutes my absolute newest of the new.  I’m almost ashamed to say my first encounter with Green Lantern was the movie and while I’m sorry I saw it, its being horrible didn’t at all convince me the character had no merit and the concept intrigued me greatly.

This is exactly why I saw fit to pick up Green Lantern #1.  Seeing Sinestro on the cover was also appealing.  While I don’t feel I saw the extent of the character’s arc in the movie, Mark Strong played him well and I enjoyed the character. Continue reading

Review: Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #1

While I previously talked about this new Spider-Man and what the implications might be, only now can I say I’ve read it and can give my honest feedback on it. Despite the fact that I’m a fairly rampant Spider-Man fan, I’ll do my best to keep things on the up-and-up and try not to divulge too much into gushing for gushing’s sake.

Review: Detective Comics #1 (2011)

Out of all of the New 52, Detective Comics excited me the most.  While I’d never been a huge DC fan, I certainly was a Batman fan growing up on account of the most excellent animated series. Having enjoyed Justice League #1′s portrayal of Batman, I was anxious to see what would happen in the re-launch of Detective Comics and suffice it to say I wasn’t disappointed.

Review: Justice League #1

Before we get started let me say that I’ve never been a huge DC fan. Well, at least not their comics. It’s not that I necessarily thought they were bad by default, but the extent of my DC knowledge was mainly gained from their movies and also the Batman animated series from Fox when I was growing (which, was awesome, btw).

That being said, I’ve also never really reviewed a comic book on here. I liked the idea of it, but I felt kind of unqualified, but then I remembered this is the Internet and there are no hard and fast rules. So while I may not be qualified to technically dissect the artistic style within a comic, what I can do is speak as a comic book fan to the best of my ability and explain what I did and didn’t like.

So here we go!
