As some of you may have already seen, we have a fun, new phone app for all to enjoy: Fallout Shelter! I was so ecstatic when I heard this was being released to hold us over until Fallout 4 hits the shelves. The game currently is only for iPhone 5c and later models but it was just announced that it will be coming to those of you with Androids shortly! Let me tell you about this amazing game!
While playing the game, you have three main resources that you must manage: Power, Water, and Food. These three must be kept at a specific level in order to keep your dwellers happy and functional. Power is the most important of the three in my opinion as it keeps the other rooms functional and able to produce their goods. Food and Water are to keep your dwellers from dying of low health and radiation poisoning.
During the course of the game, there are ‘special’ events (I use that term loosely) that occur during your time whilst playing or watching your dwellers do whatever it is they want to do. Raider and Radroach attacks seem to be the more common of the three events, but fires can also break out. If an event occurs in a room and is not resolved it will spread to adjacent rooms. These can severely damage your dwellers and cause them to become unhappy…be prepared. They only become more difficult with time…
Now, the dwellers are similar to the characters in the console Fallout series, where they each have their own SPECIAL stats. To start, you are given roughly twelve dwellers, three of which have either high S (Strength) for the Power Plant, high P (Perception) for the Water Plant, or high A (Agility) for the Kitchen. Each of the other dwellers has a specialty they may or may not fit best into. The general dweller starts out with 12 to 13 points distributed between all of the SPECIAL stats. Each stat has a room or rooms they work best in and later on, you can acquire rooms to train their SPECIAL stats.
There are special dwellers too! I have only acquired one (Dr. Li) and Emma has received Comfessor Cromwell thus far. These special dwellers start out with roughly 40 points in SPECIAL stats and a much higher level. Weapons and outfits can also be special and highly advantageous to have and collect.
Where can I get all of these amazing items you may ask? I’ll tell you! Lunch boxes, yes…you read that correctly, Lunch boxes. These are iconic for the Fallout universe and they make an appearance to home the special reward from quests which grant resources, caps, guns, outfits and remain the only source for Legendary Dwellers as of now. If you want a full list of everything, look here. You can also send dwellers into the wasteland to find caps, guns and armor.
I know that this may not seem as exciting as I’m making it out to be, so check out Josh’s Dad on the VLOG to see what he has to say. If this suave man can’t convince you, then I don’t know who else can. Leave us a comment about your vault or with questions about how to better yours!
