The Geeks

Joshua and Nicole

Who we are:

Josh and I are both geeks and we seem to understand and welcome this concept. This is made clear when we enter a vintage video game store and rush the counter as soon as we see titles from our youth, or when we quote lines from Pirates of Silicon Valley. However, there are some slight differences to our geekdom.

Josh revels in computers and technology and was raised by geeks himself. He doesn’t consider himself aligned with any one piece of technology or platform (though he’s been partial to Apple lately), and prefers to remain platform-independent. Technology aside, Josh and I both share an unending passion for video games with a particular focus on console games.

I like to think of music as my first language, especially jazz. From the ODJB to Ellington, Fitzgerald, Mingus, Davis, Holiday, and even Weather Report, I like to express my inner geek by memorizing movements, recording dates and transitions. Besides music, video games and the desire to earn achievement points also motivate me and make me who I am.

Why we made this:

The term ‘geek’ is broadly defined, but we like to think of it as an endearing devotion to a particular field, concept, idea, product, or any number of these no matter what anyone else thinks. Keeping this in mind, rather than have the site solely revolve around just technology or just games, we realized that we have an enduring passion for all kinds of things from movies and music to comics and web development. Are we doing something fantastically new? No, not really, but that doesn’t change the fact that we both love the idea of putting our views and opinions out there in the high hopes that we can garner at least a few visitors who share the same perspective of what it means to be a geek. Whether you’re a movie enthusiast, votary of video games, bonafide technophile, or a Magic the Gathering aficionado, we appreciate you stopping by and hope you’ll find something to enjoy.
