Zombies are becoming a bit cliche’ but that’s only because they’re awesome. Plus it’s Halloween. So if you’re a fan of zombies, shooting things, and the wild west you might wanna take a gander. Trailer below!

The first real piece of DLC for the BioShock series debuted yesterday: the ‘Sinclair Solutions Test Pack’. This DLC enhances the multi-player aspect of the game by raising the level cap to 50, adding a third upgrade for each weapon, and unlocking 20 more trials and 2 more playable characters.
Good to know when I’m ready to start the looooooonnnnnnng journey of leveling my BioShock 2 character.
You can buy this DLC package for 400 MS Points/$5 for PS3er’s.
There is no doubt in my mind that Borderlands was the best game of 2009, and that it is one of the first games I recommend to customers when I’m at work. Last week the newest wave of DLC for it came out (The Secret Armory of General Knoxx) and I have heard nothing but wonderful things about it, as expected. It’s incredibly hard (like, makes you want to throw the controller through a sliding glass door hard), develops the games’ characters more (and brings some back!), raises the level cap, adds new weapons/vehicles/enemies, and of course, gives you more delightful achievement/trophy opportunities. This is well and good, and because I’m poor at self-control, I will buy it. But is this game wearing anyone else out? You just know they’re going to come out with some kind of special package/GotY edition that includes all three DLC packages, and buy the time I get around to buying General Knoxx, like a week later that special package will come out. The first DLC, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, came out on 11/24, a month after the game was released. The second, Mad Moxxie’s Underdome Riot, 12/29. And now, Secret Armory of General Knoxx, 2/23.
So I’m officially calling a boycott on Borderlands DLC. If you’re with me, stand strong and be patient for the inevitable package! The struggle is always easier to survive if you’re doing it with a friend, so make sure you find your anti-DLC buddy soon. If you cave, it will cost you 800 MS points/$9.99 from the PlayStation store. And then I will unfriend you.
Nicole and I have run into a fundamental problem each week with our posting. Lately we’ve worked toward more original posts and less ‘newsy’ posts because we realized there is way too much happening in geek culture each week to aptly catalog with daily posts. So, starting today we’ll begin posting your geekend updates where you can at-a-glance see all the cool stuff we’ve come across each week. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

When I first read about and wrote the post for Mad Moxxie I was only slightly impressed. The $8.99 DLC I will inevitably buy features arenas? And there are only three of them to choose from? But when I considered it, I realized it was exactly what I wanted: more senseless killing. Borderlands attracted me for many reasons, but the satisfaction and joy the shooting aspect brought me was probably the best one. If you’ve watched, played or read about Mad Moxxie then, you already know why I am head over heels in love with her it. But let me share with you in list format…

Gearbox announced their second DLC package for October’s RPG/FPS blockbuster, Borderlands. Titled “Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot”, this DLC is scheduled to come out on December 29 for 360 users and January 7 for those on the PS3. Unlike Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, this package is less plot focused and more centered in on raw action and for multi-player craziness.
“Mad Moxxi”, who could be Amanda Palmer from the Dresden Dolls’ video game doppleganger, changes husbands like she changes clothes, and apparently to find her new groom-to-be they must first attempt to survive her “underdome”. There are three domes: Hell-burbia, the Angelic Ruins and The Gully. In each of these, the player(s) will be faced with waves (specifically five) of different types of enemies (think the Fight Club quests from the original game). There is only one new quest: to survive each new dome. As easy as this may sound and even though you may have kicked serious butt when you did the Fight Club quests, this new DLC is supposed to challenge the player like they’ve never been challenged before. I suppose we’ll see for ourselves come December/January!
Maybe I just haven’t followed other games this closely, but I feel like Gearbox is really trying to pump out the DLC for this game. I absolutely love it, but I’m still finishing up Dr. Ned and my first char is only level 40 out of 50. Give those of us who have jobs and other obligations a chance to catch up first! But in the end, doesn’t matter. I’ll fall for it, end up buying it and play the life out of it until they release their next package.
Wondering why the title is about L4D2 but our picture features the original four survivors? If you’ve connected the dots, you’re probably experiencing the same euphoria I am. New DLC for L4D2 is going to feature Zoey, Francis, Bill and Louis! Set shortly after the events of the “Dead Center” campaign, “The Passing” campaign will be released in the spring of 2010. Although you still play as the new characters, your group of survivors manage to run into the L4D set and the eight of you will fight through to the highway section of the “Dark Carnival” campaign. This DLC will also feature new survivor/scavenge/versus mode maps, a new type of Uncommon infected, new melee weapons and firearms, and even a new type of co-op play! An official date will be announced shortly.

Like Silent Hill, World of Warcraft, BioShock or any of my other all-time favorites, I will constantly be keeping a tab on Borderlands because I’m so in love with it. And here is the first big news involving the game since its release a few weeks ago.
“The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned” will contain all new quests, enemies and items. Apparently, Dr. Ned’s skillz as a medic failed him when it came to the workers at Jakob’s Cove and ended up transforming them into zombies. Your job is to aid him in curing the undead creatures. In the new DLC you’ll encounter dudes that look like the Frankenstein thing from the picture and even “Were-Skags”. We at Geekspodcast are obligated to buy any video game or DLC containing zombie-like creatures.
Starting November 24 PS3 and XBOX 360-ers will be able to pick this up for $9.99 (or 800 Microsoft points). There are currently no details on the PC version yet, but who really wants to play Borderlands on PC?
After waiting for nearly a month and a half, the DLC you got for free for pre-ordering the Beatles’ Rock Band at Gamestop is available. However, this is only if the three songs you chose from the list available were from the Abbey Road album. If you’re like me and picked some songs from Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album, we have to wait until some TBA time in November to get our songs (we so should have picked ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer’!). For ‘A Day in the Life’, it’s worth it.
While many of you 360 owners have already had your way with the most excellent Braid, now PS3 owners will have the same privilege with the game finally getting rated for release. You can read more about it over at destructoid, but suffice it to say that this is one that shouldn’t be missed by anyone who’s a fan of platformer or puzzle games. It’s got a breathtaking soundtrack, outstanding visuals, and a truly original story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Are any of you PS3 owners excited?
