Arkham City Midnight Launch

So I went with my friend Kyle to pick up Arkham City at midnight last night.  I’ve been positively rabid to step back into the boots of the Caped Crusader lately, especially having already enjoyed most of his New 52 appearances.

It was a pretty good midnight launch with pizza available, people dressed up as the Dark Knight, and some swag handed out for best costume. There was some light competition involving challenge mode from the original Arkham Asylum.  I participated but alas, my training overwhelmed my ability to achieve a high score.  Unfortunately I kept knocking criminals out almost immediately instead of leaving them conscious to get beat mercilessly for higher combo scores.

Gamestop Gouges Mass Effect Fans

Don’t get me wrong, I love capitalism as much as the next Taco Bell gorging American, and I expect to be raped on prices for things like gasoline or twinkies.  However, I do expect a little bit of common courtesy or at the very least some discretion in how said rapings are to be carried out when it comes to my wallet.  Take for example, Gamestop.  We’re already aware that they’re little more than brick and mortar pawn shops for video games, but my limited budget for gaming and insatiable lust for the latest and greatest keeps me coming back again and again.  And ya know, I could almost forgive them for upping the price of a pre-owned copy of Mass Effect from $17.99 to $24.99 in light of Mass Effect 2′s launch last night.  I mean, that’s supply and demand baby! But then to drop the price by $2 and artificially creating a ‘bargain’ as evidenced below on their website as of this morning is a slap in the face.  It’s a slap in the face with a bag of dicks.

But fear not, even though this is classic Gamestop dickery, those of you with an interest in playing through through the first Mass Effect in preparation for the sequel will be pleased to know that BestBuy has plenty of copies in stock at a slightly more reasonable $19.99.

So now you know the effect Mass Effect 2 has had on the masses…yuk yuk

Modern Warfare 2 Launches Tonight!

Modern Warfare 2Yes, the time we’ve all (or at least I’ve) been desperately waiting for has finally arrived.  Tonight I’ll be headed to my local Gamestop to pick up the latest from Infinity Ward and bask in the glory of terrorist headshots and WoW-esque deathmatches.  It launches at midnight tonight and while Nicole can’t  make it with me, I’ll be there, camera in hand to interview some of the crazies that are going out.  It’ll probably take me a few days to edit the video together but I’ll be sure to get it up there even if it is horrifically bad just so you can see how many people showed up.  At my Gamestop they took over 450 pre-orders, so it’s likely there will be a lot showing up.  I’ve heard at the campus location near OSU that they had over 1200 pre-orders and it’s going to be so crazy that Skyline Chili will be there handing out free, well, chili.  So stay tuned and as soon as I have the time I’ll re-cap the launch!

The PS3 Slim Makes an Early Debut

Not as sleek and shiny, but the money you'll be saving is worth it.So apparently Sony released the PS3′s a week early, so as of August 26th you have been able to pick one up for yourself. Not sure why they did this as of yet, but Microsoft is keeping up with them and as of yesterday, the 28th, the new Xbox 360 Elite packages for $299.99 are on sale.

Also: if you plan on picking a PS3 Slim up from a Gamestop, make sure you bring one of your old systems. If you currently bring in a PS2 Slim + one Sony controller + one memory card, you’ll get $50 off if you use it toward the purchase of a PS3 Slim. Same if you bring a PS3 + one controller in, only you’ll get $150 off. Just a head’s up!
