Happy Halloween!

Yes, Halloween is here and will soon be gone.  If you remember, I committed at the beginning of the month to 31 days of horror.  While I didn’t quite hit that mark, we did generally have more Halloween-centric stuff that in the past.  Here’s a list of all the horror stuff we covered this month so have a great Halloween and get ready all you writers because NanoWriMo starts tomorrow!

Horrifying Childhood Movie Moments: Scrooged

Alright, Scrooged, Bill Murray’s (then) modern-day take on A Christmas Carol was supposed to be a comedy.  I mean, it is a comedy and a brilliant one at that.  I can appreciate it now that I’m older, but watching it as a child scared all of the Christmas spirit right out of me.  It wasn’t just one scene, but a few that I remember only as the purest stuff that nightmares were made of.

Review: Thankskilling

Oh wow.  Just, wow.  I just finished watching Thankskilling.  It is a delightful piece of B-movie schlock that you absolutely must watch.  I should’ve left this to The Monster Popcorn crew, but I just couldn’t help myself.

Now, I’m not going to review this on the standard scale, but rather I am going to use Thankskilling for the establishment of an entirely separate review system.  Why?  Because judging it by traditional standards would be akin to pitting a Big Mac against a Filet Mignon- yes, it’s technically worse but under the right circumstances it’s damn tasty.

5 Halloween Costume Trends That Need to Die

I’ve seen 27 Halloweens as of this year and at least 20 of those I can remember quite vividly.  Over the past couple of decades I’ve seen great costumes, so-so costumes, and also the outright insane.

However, through the years there are certain themes I’ve seen develop.  Some come and go gracefully with the good sense to bow out as the years roll on, but some costumes just absolutely refuse to die and frankly?  They’re way past due.

The Scariest Web Comic I’ve Ever Read

This is a quick post, but an important one.  I should point out this was originally posted on Reddit at one point but I was having trouble finding the original post there.  Just the same I had bookmarked it after I saw it a while back and while it’s short, it gets massive points for creativity.

It sounds strange, but I can say it more than left me uneasy.  So go ahead and click right here because, after all, a webcomic can’t be scary can it? ;)

What to Expect From GeeksPodcast in October 2011

We’ve never been secretive about October being our favorite month.  Nicole and I are quick to let the Silent Hill soundtrack drift through the house as we carve up Jack-o-Lanterns and dig through our most terrifying games to start the month off right.

However, it occurred to us that we didn’t really give Halloween the play it deserved in the past.  Sure we did a few posts here and there, but we wanted to take it to a new level in 2011.

Specifically, we’re committing now to give you something horrific, bone-chilling, or otherwise frightening every. single. day.  Posts to rattle your nerves and keep you in the Halloween spirit all month.  Like some kind of demonic Baskin Robins, we’re throwing you 31-derful (har har) consecutive posts centered only around that chill in your spine as the leaves change and the darkness closes in earlier and earlier.  Specifically, you can look for:

  • Reviews specific to horror
  • Haunted locales
  • Demented madmen
  • Scary tales
  • Other serious sh*t

All jokes aside, we love getting into the Halloween spirit and if you’re anything like us we hope you’ll find something to enjoy this month.

Also, make sure to follow us on twitter or like us on FaceBook to keep up to date and not miss anything!

Cosplay 101: Zoey from Left 4 Dead

Tonight Josh and I have decided to embark on the most epic event ever created: one of Columbus’ Zombie Pub Crawls. However, I chose to be different and be the zombie hunter rather than the zombie. I present Zoey from Left 4 Dead! I was only given 2 hours to make this work, so it’s not as awesome as it could be, but a better one is definitely on its way. Maybe Halloween next year? 50 Amazing Video Game Jack-o’-Lanterns

Nicole and I are in the middle of carving up some Jack-o-Lanterns for Halloween.  Unfortunately, much like my Halloween costume, I have no idea what to carve yet.  However, needing some inspiration I went looking for some geeky or game-related jack-o-lanterns for inspiration.  It occurred to me that A)lots of these are really awesome and B)I’m betting a few of you would appreciate having a wide range of geek jack-o-lanterns to check out.  I did not carve/photograph any of these and links to the original place I found them are listed below.

Also, if you like this post, we’d sure appreciate it if you either followed us on Twitter, liked us on FaceBook or both!  If you don’t we’ll still give you hugs at conventions, but no stickers for you!  Ok, we’ll still do the stickers too- enjoy! ;)

Check out the rest after the jump!
