Let me say first that I’m not in the habit of punching myself in the dick. I’m just illustrating a few minor changes I’d appreciate Apple making that would prevent me from spiraling down that path in frustration, reducing the possibility of my 16 planned Josh Jrs. Changes like…

What Steve Jobs Meant to Me
Back to the Mac: A Hard Drive Failure Tale
Updates have been a little slim starting out this June, but I have a legitimate excuse- last week my iMac’s hard drive failed and I had to take it to the Apple Store for a replacement. It was especially unfortunate as work had a couple of video projects I needed to finish and lost them. Irritating? Sure. Catastrophic? Not by a long shot.
Thankfully, I keep a very limited amount of data on my local drive at any given point with most of my larger files on external drives, my Time Capsule, and also in the cloud. Ironically I was just gearing up to do a post about the importance of keeping sound backups of your data.
It was the first time I’d had to visit the Genius Bar for real assistance and it was a pretty good experience. The employees were all very knowledgeable and empathetic to my problem. They’ve also got a very streamlined process for assisting customers with their new Apple Store App for the iPhone so setting up an appointment was a breeze. As a bonus they no longer had 320GB drives in stock (paltry I know) and upgraded me to a 500GB (still pretty lax but an improvement nonetheless.
Anyways, regular updates should resume now and if any of you have had any good experience with the Apple store let us know in the comments!
Steps Taken to Tidy my iMac
I love my iMac as I’m sure I’ve made clear on more than a few occasions. As much as I love it though, I’m still a relative noob having enjoyed the merits of OS X for only a little more than a year now and was unclear on how to keep a lot of my files and applications well organized. After doing some research (and a bit of trial-and-error) I found a lot of great ways to keep things easy to locate so I can spend less time searching for what I need and more time being productive. I’ll list out the changes I’ve implemented below.
Lots of New Apple Goodness
So the reason for the Apple store suspiciously going down the other day has finally been revealed- a whole slew of updates to Macintosh hardware and some snazzy new products! Granted, analysts had predicted for a while that there would be some new products forthcoming this October, but it’s nice to see them finally come out. Because Apple has a more in-depth examination of the new goodies, I’ll spare you the exhaustive details and instead rely on my good friend, bulleted-list to give you a quick ‘n dirty run-down of some of the more notable announcements:
- Introduction of the Magic Mouse, the successor to the not-so-Mighty Mouse featuring mouse gestures
- Brand-spanking new iMacs in 21.5″ and a whopping 27″ aimed at designers (now with SD card slots no less)
- Revamped Mac Minis
- New polycarbonate shell base model Macbook, though still at a $999.00 starting price
