Marvel Bringing Marvel Comics to the iPhone

Hello Amazing Spider-Man #1!TechCrunch is reporting that Marvel is partnering with Panelfly to bring many of your favorites from Amazing Spider-Man to X-men to the Appstore.  Issues will cost $0.99 and while I love the prospect of reading comics on my iPhone, I imagine the small screen would make it a bit difficult to make out everything onscreen.  Regular books work well enough, but I’ve struggled reading webcomics on mobile devices, let alone all of the panels in a standard sized comic book.  However, there are comics out there that are specifically formatted for mobile devices such as the most excellent NYC 2123. Hopefully Panelfly will be able to bring us our favorite Marvel classics without too much pinching and swiping required.  Excelsior!

MMS for iPhone is Here

This was actually taken at a very tasty Mexican restaurant if you were wondering and love hovertext. That’s right, MMS for AT&T iPhone users is finally here and will BLOW YOUR MIND!  I mean, if you’ve lived in a cave since 2003 or so anyways.  For those of you still wondering, if you connect your iPhone to your Mac/PC and fire up iTunes you’ll be notified that a carrier update is available and you’ll now be able to send picture and video messages as much as you’d like.  Well, you can send video if you have a fancy pants 3GS while luddites like myself are just deeply saddened, wiping our tears on our dreadful iPhone 3Gs (little s).  Anyways, it surely took AT&T long enough to get their act together, but better late than never, right?

OSU is going mobile

I guess if any college does it, I'm not surprised it's Ohio State. :) The Ohio State University home page has a variety of news tidbits flash across it each quarter, and this quarter one really caught my eye: there is now an OSU app for iPhones and other smart phones that students (see: freshman) can use to help them discover campus. Apparently “m.osu.edu” is like a mobile Buckeye Link: you can check out academic stuff, research, athletics, maps of the campus, places to eat, and so on. Also on this new application are features like where the bus stops are and where the buses are currently en route, quick access to social media, where you can find wireless internet and the locations of interest like the Thompson Library and Mirror Lake, and a search feature that will instantly allow you to find professors’ emails and email them. For anyone above a rank one, this is probably minimally helpful, but it’s still neat to see my school, the biggest school in the country, to finally create an app. Learn more about m.osu.edu here.
