As Nicole already pointed out, The Passing, the latest expansion came out for Left 4 Dead 2 made its debut a few days ago. Thankfully, we took this weekend to have some ‘us’ time and are spending all day today and tomorrow staying in together. So what were we to do? Slay zombies of course! So what did I think of the newest undead-slaying DLC? Read on to find out.

Two Days Until ‘The Passing’!
So it was finally announced: the new L4D2 DLC ‘The Passing’ is going to be released on Thursday, April 22. Although its a few weeks after they initially said, I won’t be complaining because the additions sound incredible! Check it out:
- play time with three of the original survivors
- new weapons, including a golf club and an M60 machine gun
- new survival and scavenge maps
- the “Fallen Survivor” (an uncommon common infected)
…and more, which you can check out here. To recap, “The Passing” receives its name because you play with only three out of four of the original survivors. New DLC will also be released for the original Left 4 Dead, which will explain which survivor sacrifices their life for the lives of his or her fellow survivors. I have an inkling that it won’t be Zoey or Francis, since Valve employee Chet Faliszek made mention of their interaction with the new survivors. Looks like we may be down to Louis or Bill! Guess we’ll have to wait until Thursday to find out.
‘The Passing’ will be available for free for PC users and 560 MS points for Xbox Live players.
L4D and The Passing: Someone Will Die?!
A couple of days ago Valve announced the tagline for the newest piece of DLC coming out for Left 4 Dead 2: “Nobody Lives Forever.” So we already knew the original survivors were going to be joining the new ones in Left 4 Dead 2‘s new DLC, ‘The Passing’, but Chet Faliszek of Valve spilled that one of the original four would have to make the ultimate sacrifice for the good of the team at the end of the campaign. So who will it be?! There is much speculation being tossed around (some of it racist, some of it sexist), but in the end we’ll just have to wait until a more solid release date is announced.
‘The Passing’ will be a three-part long campaign that takes place between ‘Dead Center’ and ‘Dark Carnival’. It’ll also feature a new kind of uncommon infected, known as the “Fallen Survivor”, who, once killed, can supply the team with ammunition and medical supplies.
Valve also plans on releasing a piece of DLC for the original L4D detailing how the original survivors got to the south in the first place. So far it’s rumored to come out about a month after ‘The Passing’. More info soon!
Valve Announces L4D2 DLC
Wondering why the title is about L4D2 but our picture features the original four survivors? If you’ve connected the dots, you’re probably experiencing the same euphoria I am. New DLC for L4D2 is going to feature Zoey, Francis, Bill and Louis! Set shortly after the events of the “Dead Center” campaign, “The Passing” campaign will be released in the spring of 2010. Although you still play as the new characters, your group of survivors manage to run into the L4D set and the eight of you will fight through to the highway section of the “Dark Carnival” campaign. This DLC will also feature new survivor/scavenge/versus mode maps, a new type of Uncommon infected, new melee weapons and firearms, and even a new type of co-op play! An official date will be announced shortly.
Dearest Joshua,
Tonight… you.
Band of the Day: Midnight Riders
If you decided to pick up Left 4 Dead 2 this week you probably have played the “Dark Carnival” campaign already and are aware of the ending: in order to escape the zombie-infested Whispering Oaks amusement park, you must start the concert at the amphitheater. Annnnd, as you also may know, the stage is set up for the fictional band the “Midnight Riders” to play at. Throughout the campaign there are posters and memos on the safehouse walls about the biker band escaping Whispering Oaks, and now the Midnight Riders have their own teaser site up.
What could the “coming soon” mean? Well Michael McWhertor from Kotaku speculates that the Midnight Riders may be playable in a new DLC campaign, or that you may be able to choose to play one of the Midnight Riders in the Dark Carnival campaign. Either way, this would be super original and I look forward to slaying zombies as a middle-aged, tattooed biker dude (see: Francis).
Another Night, Another Midnight Launch
Well, 3 midnight launches more specifically. As you can see I’ve braved yet another midnight hour in my lust for geekish media. I confess though, that copy of Assassin’s Creed II is Jon’s, not mine, as he was nice enough to join me tonight. I will pick it up, but not until I’m done beating Modern Warfare 2. Come to to think of it, that’s like the third sequel to come along recently. I already know that MW2 is living up to its predecessor, but I haven’t spent enough time with these other two sequels to say either way. I’m sure I’ll review at least one of them in the coming week or two, but for now I’m going to kick back, relax, drink another, terrible Red Bull and play until I can’t keep my eyes are open, or the sun reminds me of my foolishness. Stay tuned!
All 5 L4D2 Campaigns Known
All five of the new campaigns for the heavily anticipated Left 4 Dead 2 game have been announced, and this time there will be a story arc. Set in the Southern United States, players will get to survive the zombie apocalypse in five new, (mostly) original settings.
1.) “Swamp Fever”, set in an overgrown bayou (creepy enough without zombies),
2.) “The Parish”, which takes place near a church (again, very creepy, especially assuming there will be a graveyard),
3.) “Dark Carnival”, where survivors must pass through a half-operating theme park,
and the newest two to be announced
4.) “Dead Center”, which takes place in a mall (it had to be done) and
5.) “Hard Rain”, which is set in an oil refinery.
