5 Comic Heroes I’d Kick in the Balls…for Science!

Before we get started, I realize that I appear to be in the habit of making dick jokes lately. However, this is different. This is a scientific examination of what exactly would happen if some of our favorite characters from comic books took a straight shot to the pills. Granted, some of you may have already seen some of these in Marvel vs. Capcom, but I’m trying to be professional here. For instance, what exactly would happen if I gave a brutal blow to the balls of…

GeeksPodcast and Packrat Comics Team Up! Episode 1

Oh yes, the new show that I’d touched on previously has finally made its debut.  Ahem, it’s not an outstanding debut I’m afraid because I was down a co-host, but we did shoot in Packrat and it was a lot of fun putting it together.  These super quick episodes will be a weekly series that will come out late every Tuesday night and highlight the comics coming out that following Wednesday morning.

A big thanks to Jamie, Theresa, Bob,William, and Jon for all helping bring it to life!

Review: Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man #1

While I previously talked about this new Spider-Man and what the implications might be, only now can I say I’ve read it and can give my honest feedback on it. Despite the fact that I’m a fairly rampant Spider-Man fan, I’ll do my best to keep things on the up-and-up and try not to divulge too much into gushing for gushing’s sake.

Review: Kick-Ass

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t thrilled with the prospect of seeing Kick-Ass. In fact, I only went because Jon woke me up from a nap I was taking and rushed Nicole and I to the theater last night, effectively kidnapping us.  Haunting presuppositions of a campy, Mystery Men-ish comic book movie flooded my mind when met with the prospect of seeing this film. However, as with most things Jon drags us to, he was completely right in doing so. In fact Kick-Ass was so Kick-Ass that it forced me to get that terrible line out at the beginning if the review instead of the end of the review. But it’s not enough to say that it IS kick ass, so hit the jump to find out why Kick-Ass comes out of the gates with fury, setting up the summer movie season in a big way.

Iron Man 2 Trailer #2

Now, I’m not in the habit of spoiling things per se, but I will only use the image on the left as a very small hint of things to come in Iron Man 2.  Many of you are already aware of some modifications to the original Iron Man design we’ve already seen and many more of you may already be intimately familiar with the veritable armory of models that Tony has crafted over the years.  However, the first person to give me the name of the armor on the left (and appearing in the new trailer below) will win ALL of my internets for the week.  Sure, it may be an obscure bit of trivia, but I always thought the name was totally badass.  Check out the latest trailer from Marvel after the jump!

Marvel Bringing Marvel Comics to the iPhone

Hello Amazing Spider-Man #1!TechCrunch is reporting that Marvel is partnering with Panelfly to bring many of your favorites from Amazing Spider-Man to X-men to the Appstore.  Issues will cost $0.99 and while I love the prospect of reading comics on my iPhone, I imagine the small screen would make it a bit difficult to make out everything onscreen.  Regular books work well enough, but I’ve struggled reading webcomics on mobile devices, let alone all of the panels in a standard sized comic book.  However, there are comics out there that are specifically formatted for mobile devices such as the most excellent NYC 2123. Hopefully Panelfly will be able to bring us our favorite Marvel classics without too much pinching and swiping required.  Excelsior!

Disney Acquires Marvel

So as I’m sure most of the comic community and a few of you movie lovers have heard, Disney has acquired Marvel for a measly little $4 billion dollars.  I suppose I like to imagine that in some comical (get it?) fashion, Scrooge McDuck himself handed over a ridiculously large check to Stan Lee just before going in for a nice swim in his seemingly endless money pool.  However, this time instead of gleefully diving about between diamond rings, gold pieces, and $100 bills, I picture him furiously drowning Spider-man with his bare uh, duck hands before taking a gigantic McDump all over the hopes and dreams of Marvel fans everywhere who’d waited for decades for their favorite comics make it to the silver screen.   Anyways, I’m bad at analogies, the point is while it’s too early to tell at this stage whether or not Disney will begin raping our favorite franchises, the news is still…unsettling.
