5 Things I Hate About Mass Effect (That Were Fixed in Mass Effect 2)

Recently a friend of mine compelled me to finish Mass Effect, the hit sci-fi RPG from BioWare that made its debut way back in 2007.  I actually hadn’t touched the game in over a year and having now finished it, I feel like some purpose has been added to my life.  Ok, that’s a stretch but it did feel good to finally knock it out.

Anyways, despite my love for the story, characters, and general polish of the experience, there were a few things that bugged the ever-loving shit out of me that have been rectified in Mass Effect 2.

Gamestop Gouges Mass Effect Fans

Don’t get me wrong, I love capitalism as much as the next Taco Bell gorging American, and I expect to be raped on prices for things like gasoline or twinkies.  However, I do expect a little bit of common courtesy or at the very least some discretion in how said rapings are to be carried out when it comes to my wallet.  Take for example, Gamestop.  We’re already aware that they’re little more than brick and mortar pawn shops for video games, but my limited budget for gaming and insatiable lust for the latest and greatest keeps me coming back again and again.  And ya know, I could almost forgive them for upping the price of a pre-owned copy of Mass Effect from $17.99 to $24.99 in light of Mass Effect 2′s launch last night.  I mean, that’s supply and demand baby! But then to drop the price by $2 and artificially creating a ‘bargain’ as evidenced below on their website as of this morning is a slap in the face.  It’s a slap in the face with a bag of dicks.

But fear not, even though this is classic Gamestop dickery, those of you with an interest in playing through through the first Mass Effect in preparation for the sequel will be pleased to know that BestBuy has plenty of copies in stock at a slightly more reasonable $19.99.

So now you know the effect Mass Effect 2 has had on the masses…yuk yuk
