Discless Netflix for PS3 Arrives

If you haven’t heard, you can now use Netflix on the PS3 without having to insert the Netflix disc.  The new Netflix is now available as a downloadable app.  I’m going to play with it some more, but so far the interface overhaul looks pretty nifty.  The old version for PS3 seemed more than a bit clunky compared to its 360 counterpart, but this new version might have me firing up the PS3 a bit more often for my streaming media needs.

The 360 gained popularity and staying power when they introduced Netflix to their system in late 2008. Since then, over a million users have added the Netflix application to their system, and for $8.99 USD a month that is certainly one heck of a deal. One year later the PlayStation 3 joined our century and the Netflix Instant Streaming Disc was arriving on the doorsteps of PS3 users as well.

Now Nintendo is gearing up to add Netflix to their consoles as well. Streaming will be introduced to the Wii this spring sometime, although no approximate dates have been added yet. For geeks like Joshua and I, this essentially means we can have Netflix on all five of our systems. Now we just need to buy a fifth TV…
