Jace, the Mind Sculptor Cometh

I confess that I’m not at all proud of the circumstances surrounding the acquisition of the card on the left.  In fact, I’m downright ashamed of it in a way considering the over-the-top dickery of it all.  You see, I was on the way to The Guardtower with Jon to pick up the Worldwake Fat Pack and a few boosters. While we were on the way, he looked a bit down after getting no mythic rares whatsoever after he bought (and we split) an M10 booster box earlier this month.  So, goofing off I told him I guaranteed that one of the boosters he bought that day would certainly have Jace, the Mind Sculptor within its irritatingly difficult to open packaging.  He opened both of them only slightly hopeful but Jace was nowhere to be found.  So, I dropped him back off at his place and went home to check out my own wares.  At this point, on the third Worldwake booster pack I opened I found this guy there to greet me.  So, go me!  Aaaaand, really sorry I got Jon’s hopes up like that… mostly.

I’d wanted the card for a while on account of not really having a planeswalker yet. He’s certainly a great find mind thanks in no small part to his whopping 4 abilities as opposed to the standard 3; one of which allows you to pretty much end the game by forcing your opponent to put their entire library into their graveyard and their remaining hand into their library.

Also, on a side note the ladies just absolutely love Jace- dunno what it is.

Returning to Magic: The Gathering…

Was not by choice.  Not at all.  As a matter of fact, the entire idea of playing Magic again spurred from my friend, Jon, who’s having a TCG weekend at his house starting today.  In preparation, he swung by to pick up Nicole and I last night to hit up The Guard Tower to pick up supplies (boosters, counters, etc.).  I was staunchly opposed to this, but the promise of Cane’s chicken and Nicole’s rabid desire to buy more Pokemon cards made it difficult to ignore.

So what happened?  Well, the picture pretty much says it all.  I ended up buying a pre-made black and a few boosters to expand what is a fairly meager collection compared to Jon’s and decided to build a black deck for the first time (I’ve always been partial to the trickery and conservation afforded by blue).  It was primarily steeped in vampirism, but it was great fun to play.To make matters worse I woke up this morning and began compulsively re-organizing all of my cards and optimally building my black and blue decks in anticipation for tonight and Nicole’s already hitting me up about going out to get more cards.

So thanks Jon.  Thank you for unapologetically dragging me back down into that foulness which I narrowly escaped only a few short years ago and know this: My Butcher of Malakir is going to put his foot in your ass tonight.
