We’re Back From Vacation!

Apologies for the unannounced absence as of late.  Nicole and I went with family to Myrtle Beach last week and while last year we had plenty of internet access to go around, this time we weren’t so fortunate.  Originally I was going to do a post once we arrived explaining our short hiatus, but alas it wasn’t in the cards.  Nicole will probably be posting more about our vacation sometime this week, but for now know that no we haven’t abandoned you all and yes we love you like sons and daughters.  Ok, that’s pushing it, but we certainly love you enough to let you borrow our lawnmower.  If we had one I mean.

Anyways, stay tuned for our Halo Reach: Legendary Edition unboxing video sometime tonight and I’m sure some more MTG posts from JB.

Excelsior!

My Trip to Lake Hope

I’ll have to add some more photos later this week when I’m not quite as tired, but the photo above is one of regrettably few that I took over this weekend.  The weather was beautiful, with partly cloudy skies and the temperature was right around 72 for the duration of the trip.  We did a bit of everything from shooting guns to fishing and going on a short hike.  We also did other manly things like set up camp at night, cut firewood, and forced a bear to strangle another bear that we then rassled into submission and sent him on his merry way.  Seriously, for 4 nerds out in the country we were that badass.

Save for hanging out with some of my closest friends around the fire and goofing off though, I have to say the favorite part of the trip for me was finally getting to finish R.A. Salvatore’s most excellent Sojourn.

A good friend of mine turned me on to Drizzt when he got me the Icewind Dale trilogy for Christmas a few years ago and I’ve been absolutely hooked on the character ever since.  While Jon, Jake, and Kevin went fishing, I preferred the shade of a nearby tree, taking in the remainder of the afternoon engrossed in the tale of Drizzt’s adjustment to the surface world after fleeing Menzoberranzan.

Frankly I don’t get an awful lot of time to just sit and enjoy a good book and being out in the sprawling wilderness of Zeleski State Forest seemed as fitting a backdrop as ever for me to finally do just that.  It was a great read only further enhanced by the atmosphere and was incredibly relaxing.  Of course, while all this reading was happening the guys were busy fishing, but I couldn’t much be bothered to join in being so close to the end of another awesome tale by Salvatore.

Again, this is just a quick post about heading out to camp, but sometime this week after I’ve gathered the rest of the photos I’ll be sure to expand a bit ,maybe with a timeline of what all we got into.  I will say though that if you have the means, I’d highly recommend making a visit there though!

Gearing up for The Weekend…Literally

No, I’m not dressing up as a caterpillar in that picture, but I am enjoying the snuggly warmth of my new sleeping bag that I bought for this weekend.  You see, in an effort to expose me to more of the world than what’s offered through my iMac display while I look at the Discovery Channel website, my friends are dragging me out on a camping trip tomorrow.  So this weekend’s posting may be slow and I’ll likely come back to it on Sunday sometime and fill in the gaps.  Also, I’m pleased to say we’ll be bringing multiple firearms just in case the zombie apocalypse happens in the midst of our absence.  If this should happen, I’ll be writing messages to loved ones on the campground bathroom stalls a la Left 4 Dead.  Alrighty, now where did I put those bear traps…

Back from South Carolina

Your hosts, attempting to lay in a hammock.

If you’re completely out of the loop, Joshua and I took a trip with his parents to Myrtle Beach for the last week and a half. A couple of family friends were there too, as well as a total of seven computers. We managed to fit a whole lot of everything into those ten days, like magnificent dining at a wide variety of restaurants (check out Drunken Jack’s and Benjamin’s Calabash Seafood), entertainment (Ripley’s Mirror Maze, Medieval Times) and quality beach time. We’ll probably chat about our vacation for a bit on the podcast when we do it this week sometime.

So yesterday we got back into Dublin around 3:00 and like a good geek girl the first thing I did was run over to Gamestop and pick The Beatles: Rock Band up (we’ll save this topic for our podcast, as there is MUCH to talk about). But bottom line, our trip was just the break we needed, we arrived and returned safely, and we are back to our regularly scheduled program. Enjoy!

The Absence Explained

Travelling in style! So Nicole and I haven’t been posting for the past few days because we’ve gone and taken a vacation at Myrtle Beach.  Initially, we said we’d post here every day we were on vacation, but then realized that we needed a full-blown period of relaxation, even from GeeksPodcast.  So, later tonight I’ll add some pictures of Nicole and I running around North Myrtle and we may post a video or two, but that’ll be it for now. Come Sunday however, we will resume our regularly scheduled programming bringing you our witty banter and the latest news on all things geek.
