The Scariest Web Comic I’ve Ever Read

This is a quick post, but an important one.  I should point out this was originally posted on Reddit at one point but I was having trouble finding the original post there.  Just the same I had bookmarked it after I saw it a while back and while it’s short, it gets massive points for creativity.

It sounds strange, but I can say it more than left me uneasy.  So go ahead and click right here because, after all, a webcomic can’t be scary can it? ;)

Why I’m Not Touching Final Fantasy XIII…yet

Once again, Penny Arcade pretty much sums it up perfectly.  It’s not that I think the game looks bad or the combat doesn’t look interesting, I just don’t feel like spending the playtime of an entire game just to make it to the good part.  In truth, I’ve only finished Final Fantasy VIII and most of VII, but this was back when I was in high school.  Having a career and maintaining a website (even one largely devoted to games) just doesn’t lend itself well to diving into a game this massive in scope.  Granted, this may sound hypocritical considering how much I adore World of Warcraft, but that’s different; in WoW I can take guiltless breaks from play and feel content knowing that my character is at least aquiring rest, making my return all the more alluring.  It also doesn’t force me to stay in the starting zone for nearly 40 hours.

Maybe someday when I’ve got a bit more free time I’ll tackle an adventure of this magnitude, but for right now I’ll stick to digestable 10-20 hour games and see how that goes.

Anyone else out there finding Final Fantasy XIII alluring but doesn’t want to put the time into it?

I Beg You, Go Read Automota

AutomotaIt’s no secret that I’m a huge Penny Arcade fan, but their latest short story, Automota, has been a really fun read.  It’s a futuristic, detective-noir tale of sorts that reminded me a lot of Asmiov.  You can blitz through it in about 5 minutes time, but it’s a great 5 minutes to say the least.  It’s nice to see that their fan-base is so well established that they can take a break every now and then from their video game sub-culture banter and enjoy making something they’re clearly passionate about.

You can check out the first entry in the series here, and then part two and so on here using the ‘next’ links underneath the comic.  Make sure you use the part two link I just posted after you read the first part as there was a large gap between part one and the rest of the story.

Just When I Think I’m Out…

NOOOOOOOOOOO!So this weekend our buddy Jon came over and much as I love him, I flat out loathe him at the moment.  Why you ask?  Because in one deft, influential, downright nefarious move he’s managed to re-ignite my interest in World of Warcraft and as such, I’m sitting here waiting for the latest patches to download so I can dive back into the fray.

Other than taking into my veins that sweet addiction that is Azeroth, today Nicole and I went swimming for a bit and watched a bit of The IT Crowd.  Between relaxing and running around with Jon all day, we also picked up a Wacom tablet for Nicole to start work on some digital art and possibly a webcomic here on the site, but we’re still ironing out the details.

While Nicole and I are busy sorting out what we’re going to talk about on the show tomorrow, I figured I’d also let you all know of some updates we’ve got planned for the site.  In addition to continuing to post on all things geek, we’re adding some enhancements including an eventual design change and also some improvements to how you can subscribe to the show.  We’re still hashing out the details, but suffice it to say interest has steadily grown in our site and we’re having a blast keeping it updated for you all.  So thanks for continuing to check us out and we’ll keep trying to find new ways to keep you entertained.

In closing, I’d love to stay and chat but I hear my 51 mage calling my name and I’m not one to leave a lady waiting.

Goodnight!
