So I have no idea why I didn’t think to look it up at the anonymous game store, but apparently Cataclysm has been available for pre-order, i.e., has had a known release date since it was announced in August. I’m not sure how this minor detail slipped by Joshua and I, especially since around that time we were still playing World of Warcraft daily. But if you didn’t already know, the newest expansion from Blizzard is set to come out on November 1st of 2010. Just in time for my 22nd birthday!

Why You Should Give World of Warcraft a Chance
Josh and I gave the game Sacred 2: Fallen Angel a go a couple of months ago at the recommendation of a friend and co-worker. Like most hack-and-slash RPGs, Sacred 2 is strangely addicting. One moment you find yourself playing a few minutes before dinner starts and the next it’s 11:00 PM and your significant other is calling for you upstairs to go to sleep (unless you’re playing multi-player). However after playing World of Warcraft the last two months we’ve come to realize why no other RPG will do it for us quite like WoW can. World of Warcraft gets an unnecessary bad rap from a lot of people, but usually those people haven’t even played it before. Here’s some reasons why we love it and why you, yes YOU!, should give it a shot.

GeeksPodcast Episode 10: One Shall Rise, One Shall Fall
The race to 80 is finally, officially at its end. It’s been a long, arduous battle and one that’s been an absolute blast. Take a listen to find out who was the victor as well as the skinny on the new WoW expansion, Cataclysm, Inglorious Basterds, what’s coming for consoles this week and as always, our geek of the week!
The August Video Game Blues
If we’re a little slow bringing you the latest and greatest on video games this month, it’s because August is officially the slowest month of the year for new releases. This could be for a number of reasons:
1.) Lots of families are going on vacation before school starts. No time to play when you’re sailing in Panama.
2.) Kids go back to school at the end of the month, and once this happens you’ll see the amount of daytime customers drop pretty drastically.
3.) Madden 20-whatever is coming out, and nobody wants to compete with it. It is always a top seller, if you can believe it after seeing dozens upon dozens lining your local game store a few months later.
4.) It’s one of the last months of consistent good weather for us mid-western/northern states. People want to be outside while they still can!
So if we lag on the video game chatter for a bit, it’s not because we have lost interest in gaming (quite the contrary: we’re drooling for Arkham Asylum in September); it’s because it’s summer break for game developers, too.
Hope this makes you smile!
While we were in our level 30′s Josh, Jon, a couple of WoW friends and I were breezing through Razorfen Downs and came across the giant gong spider as usual. However, this time when we killed it she was on a hill, so when she finally slammed into the ground it was face first. Hope this makes you laugh as much as it did the rest of us!
5 Quick Observations on WoW

Today I was debating with my friend Jeff about why World of Warcraft is a masterpiece not just as a game, but as an experience. In typical Jeff fashion he took the role of devil’s advocate and in typical me fashion I fell into it vehemently defending my addic-er, passion. After some consideration, rather than launch into another post about the competition between Nicole and I (which I’m killing by the way), I thought I’d just list 5 of the reasons I enjoy the game in general and what brought me to it in the beginning.

Why Joshua Might (but Probably Won’t) Win
Day 11: I must admit, Joshua has unpleasantly surprised me with his progress in trying to beat me in our WoW competition. I’m finding it rather hard to keep ahead of him, as he is giving me competition I did not expect. And while I’m at it, I will also admit, he hit 60 about twenty minutes before I did, winning the unofficial bronze trophy in our race. I am now ahead of him again, but for a short period of time he managed to sneak past me in level… and I’m the rogue! So now I am finding I need to rely on my pure gamer instincts to get me ahead in this race. In my moments of weakness, however, I started to lose sight and think about all of the reasons Josh may actually win the race to 80. Here are five of them.
Weekend WoW Update
So I’m laying here trying to watch LOTR with Nicole and she’s wrapping up her auctions on my laptop. We’re just about neck-and-neck currently with her just barely into 62 while I’m nearly out of 61 territory. I’m sure she’ll give you the run-down later, but I did end up beating her to level 60 and promptly went out to grab my epic mount. Right now we’re fighting for domination in Outland, glaring at each other as we cross paths to and from the next quest. She’s a tough customer to be sure, but it’s been a lot of fun maintaining this coopetition of sorts.
Besides playing WoW, we’re also putting together notes for the show we’re recording tomorrow and hope you’ll check it out. We’ll probably have a new geek of the week ready and talk about our first video post we did the other day as well as whatever else I can find that’s interesting online. Well, that’s all for now. Goodnight internets!
Sam Raimi to Direct the World of Warcraft Movie
Oh boy, if ever there were a day where my nerdgasmic excitement couldn’t be contained ladies and gentlemen, today would be that day. Why? Because today Blizzard announced that Sam Raimi would be directing the World of Warcraft movie. I love Sam Raimi as a director and I don’t doubt his abilities one bit, but I’m praying that somewhere in there my beloved Bruce Campbell will make an appearance. What do you think? Can the Spider-Man director tackle Azeroth?

WoW Progress and Delays
So Nicole and I have been hard at work in WoW trying to edge each other out of position in the race to 80. How are things so far? Well, she’s beating me, but not by much. I’m level 51 and she’s 52. To put that in perspective though, she was beating me by 3 full levels a few days ago, so I’m gaining on her at a rapid pace. Naturally she’s been cowering in fear as I pursue her with cutthroat precision, but I’ll try to make it as painless as possible.
In other news, you’ve probably noticed a distinct lack of the ‘podcast’ part of our moniker and for that I’d like to apologize. However, I’ve got a good reason! You see, Sunday (when we normally record) we had to spend all day painting our living room and it’s still in pure chaos even with the second coat already on. Below are some pictures of our endeavor complete with a before and sort of after pic. I’ll put another one up whenever we get the room put back together. Enjoy!
